Biography
Davina Smith is from Monument Valley, Utah. She is an enrolled member of the Diné tribe. Her career experience includes working as a consultant and as the Tribal Coordinator for the National Parks Conservation Association.[1] Smith has been affiliated with the National Parks Conservation Association, Restoring Ancestral Winds, Fourth Street Clinic, and Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women.[2]

I was then drawn to working in our healthcare system, embarking on a mission with the Fourth Street Clinic to assist the houseless community in accessing vital health benefits. This experience illuminated the profound impact of environmental health on community well-being, steering me towards the nonprofit sector. Here, I championed initiatives for cleaner air and the preservation of sacred ancestral lands.
Throughout my career, I have been driven by a desire to unravel the intricate tapestry linking education, environmental stewardship, community health, and economic prospects, particularly within the context of Utah’s diverse population. Currently, as the Tribal Coordinator for the National Parks Conservation Association, I am at the forefront of fostering dynamic coalitions.- I’m running for the Utah State House of Representatives in District #69 to unite rural Utah, create opportunities for families to prosper for generations. As a youth, my grandmothers told me to go out into the world and learn as much as I could, so I could eventually come home and help communities who are being left behind. So, I did just that. I’ve fought for domestic violence victims and I’ve fought for teachers. I’ve fought to get low-income people access to health care resources. I’ve fought to give my kids the best opportunities in life. I’ve spent my life fighting for communities that are ignored. Now, I’m feel I’m prepared to step in the role as State Representative.
- I’m running because Southeast Utahns deserve the simple things. Simple things like affordable housing and quality public education. Simple things like living wages and senior housing with dignity. And today, and for too long, those simple things have been presented as complicated and unachievable. I’m running to show up and tell The Capitol (Utah) every day why our simplest needs are not being met, and demand change. I know these needs are not being met, because this is my home, and for decades I’ve witnessed the needs of rural Utahns being ignored.
- For as long as I can remember I have been using my voice to advocate, and educate the importance of preservation in our Indigenous cultures. With my years of voicing at a local level I felt I needed to step at a state level and see where the next path leads me. But I will not stop voicing.
