Three of the seven seats on the Davis School District school board were up for general election on November 8, 2016. Precinct 1 incumbent Barbara Smith withdrew from the race before the election leaving candidates Richard Call and Liz Mumford to compete for the open seat. Mumford defeated Call. John Robison defeated incumbent Larry Smith for the Precinct 2 seat. Precinct 4 incumbent Kathie Bone originally filed to run for re-election but withdrew from the race before the election. Brigit Gerrard won Bone's seat by defeating Mike McCauley.[1]

The Davis school board consists of seven members elected by geographical district to four-year terms. There was no primary election, and a general election was held on November 8, 2016, for three seats.[2]
The filing deadline for school board candidates to get on the ballot in the general election was March 17, 2016.[1]

The Davis school board election shared the ballot with federal elections for President of the United States, United States Senate, and United States Representative. Davis School District is located in Davis County, Utah. The county seat is Farmington. Davis County was home to 336,043 residents in 2015, according to the United States Census Bureau.[6] The district was the second-largest school district in the state in the 2013–2014 school year and served 70,411 students.[7]
Demographics
Davis County outperformed Utah as a whole in terms of higher education achievement from 2010 to 2014. The United States Census Bureau found that 34.6 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 30.6 percent of all state residents. The median household income in the county was $70,388, compared to $59,846 for the entire state. The poverty rate in Davis County was 7.2 percent, compared to 11.3 percent for the entire state.[6]
