Dawn Gentry was a judge on the Kenton Family Court of the 16th Judicial Circuit, which presides over Kenton County in Kentucky. She was appointed by Gov. Matt Bevin (R) on December 19, 2016.[1] She was removed from the bench on August 31, 2020 following misconduct charges.[2]
Biography
Gentry received an undergraduate degree and a J.D. from Northern Kentucky University.[1]
Prior to her appointment to the bench, Gentry practiced family law and Social Security disability law.[1]

Suspension due to allegations of misconduct
In December 2019, the Kentucky Judicial Conduct Commission filed allegations that Gentry had committed misconduct on nine different counts. Gentry denied the allegations in her response.[3] On January 6, 2020, the Judicial Conduct Commission suspended Gentry without pay pending investigation of the charges.[4] In February 2020, the Kentucky General Assembly formed a committee to investigate a possible case for impeaching Gentry on the grounds of her alleged misconduct.[5]
Gentry was originally scheduled to appear in court on April 20, 2020, but the hearing was postponed to August 10 due to the coronavirus pandemic.[6] Due to restrictions on legislative activity during the pandemic, the Kentucky General Assembly was unable to complete its impeachment investigation and dissolved at the end of the legislative session on April 15, 2020.[7]
On July 17, 2020, the Kentucky Judicial Conduct Commission filed three additional misconduct charges.[8]
On August 31, 2020, the Kentucky Judicial Conduct Commission found Gentry guilty of 10 out of 12 charges related to sexual and judicial misconduct and campaign finance violations, resulting in her removal from the bench.[9] Gentry appealed the ruling on September 11, 2020.[10]
