“ | What is your political philosophy?
I am running for Ohio School Board District 3 because I believe every Ohio child deserves a high quality public education. I am concerned about the over-reliance on high-stakes testing, the lack of accountability for charter schools, and the current punitive narrative about public education in Ohio. As a retired teacher and an activist, I will stand up for our students, our families, and our schools. Is there anything you would like to add? I am the best candidate because my career in public education and my activism for sensible education policy and funding have given me the skills I need to serve effectively on the Ohio School Board. The perspective of a classroom teacher is sorely needed on this board. A Madeira High School and University of Dayton graduate, I taught English at Morgan City High School in Morgan City, Louisiana for 3 years and English and Spanish at Northmont High School, Clayton, OH for 27 years. During that time I advocated for better learning conditions for students as the president of the Northmont District Education Association, the president of the Western Ohio Education Association, and on the Board of Directors for the Ohio Education Association. Much of that work involved bargaining, lobbying, and problem-solving. I will use that experience to be an effective Ohio School Board member.[2] |
