Dawn Wooten was a 2016 Republican candidate for Indiana superintendent of public instruction. She was defeated at the June 11 Republican state party convention.

Wooten received a B.A. in English from Indiana University and a B.S. in business management from Indiana Wesleyan University. She received her M.A. in rhetoric and composition from Indiana University. She works as an adjunct professor of English.[1]

Wooten ran as a Republican candidate for Indiana superintendent of public instruction.[1] She was defeated by Jennifer McCormick at the June 11 Republican state party convention.[2]

She issued the following statement on her run for office: "As a conservative Republican, I believe in limited government, fiscal responsibility, and the power of the people to elect the best representative to office. As Superintendent, I will overhaul the State Department of Education, eliminate ISTEP testing, replace Common Core textbooks with traditional editions, and return autonomy to teachers in the classroom."[1]
