Mathai ran for election to the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
Primary: He was successful in the primary on June 3, 2014, receiving 46.3 percent of the vote. He competed against B. Otis Felder and Jacqueline H. Lewis.
General: He was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 44.4 percent of the vote. He competed against Jacqueline H. Lewis.

Education
Mathai earned his undergraduate degree from Biola University and his J.D. from The Catholic University's Columbus School of Law in Washington D.C.[3]
Career
Mathai is a member of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. He started his career with the office and has served in several roles, from Deputy District Attorney to his position in the Organized Crime Division.[3]
