DeAnn M. Salcido was a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California.[1] She was appointed to the bench by Governor Gray Davis in 2002 and was retained by the voters in 2010.[2]
Censure and resignation
In November of 2010 it was announced that Salcido would resign from the court in response to censure from the California Commission on Judicial Performance. She agreed to 39 instances of misconduct on the bench, including an attempt to use her courtroom to audition for a reality television show, and "a series of comments that were alternately mocking, rude and snarky to litigants, lawyers and court staff".[2]
The Commission's investigation was not made public until after the June 6, 2010 election where Salcido was retained by the voters. Salcido will never be permitted to hold judicial office again.[2]

Judge Salcido won re-election in June of 2010, defeating mediator Harold Coleman Jr..[3][4] Her challenger ran with 3 other candidates for San Diego Superior Court judge on an explicitly Christian platform.[5]
Bar association survey
The San Diego County Bar Association performed a survey of 2010 judicial candidates. Salcido received a rating of "lacking qualifications," the lowest rating possible. It found opponent Harold Coleman Jr. to be "unable to evaluate," a neutral rating indicating the committee did not have enough information about him to make an assessment. [6]
