2014
Kaplan provided the following statement on her campaign website:
“ | Excellent public education is the key to our children's success. I know the positive impact that public education has had on my life and on the lives of my five children. A strong environment for learning and developing creates better community outcomes for all of the citizens of Forsyth County.
Teachers and staff should earn salaries commensurate with their peers nationwide. Period. Currently, North Carolina is ranked near the bottom for teacher compensation - which is unacceptable. While serving on the Board of Education, I will encourage fellow board members to advocate for better compensation for teachers and staff. It is the only way Forsyth County can attract the best and the brightest to the teaching profession - and keep them. Our students also should have access to energy efficient schools with state-of-the-art technology and the basic resources that they need. Parents and teachers should not be required to constantly supplement our classrooms with basic items that should be readily available to all.[3] |
