Deanne Criswell was the administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency from 2021 to 2025. The Senate confirmed her by voice vote on April 22, 2021.[1]

On January 15, 2021, President Joe Biden (D) selected Criswell as his nominee for the position. Biden's transition team said in a press release, "Deanne Criswell is an accomplished emergency management and disaster planning and response leader, with federal, city, military, and private sector experience."[2]

Biography

Criswell received a bachelor's degree in technology education and training from Colorado State University. She also earned an MPA from the University of Colorado, Denver, and a master's degree in security studies from the Naval Postgraduate School.[2][3]

Criswell served in the Colorado Air National Guard from 1992 to 2013. From 2005 to 2011, Criswell was the emergency manager for Aurora, Colorado. She worked at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) from 2011 to 2013. Two years later, she returned to FEMA, where she worked on the national incident management assistance team from 2014 to 2017.[4]

She was a principal at Obsidian, a consulting firm specializing in security and resilience services, from 2017 to 2019. Criswell became the commissioner of New York City Emergency Management in July 2019.[4]
