I have been president of the Leisure Manor Tenants Association for over 3 years and in that time, our biggest accomplishments were the association getting a city ordinance passed and the rent stability bill 1217 passed.

I’m on the Board of AMHO (association of manufactured home owners) and newly elected to the board of Firelands. I am currently on the Utility Rate Advisory Committee for the city of Aberdeen.

I am your neighbor, concerned about the future of Aberdeen and our neighbors. I fought for housing stability for over 3 years and will continue fighting to keep our neighbors in their homes. I don’t give up.

I will stand with working families and fight for living wage jobs, and sustainable jobs with benefits.

I will bring solutions, ethics, transparency, and care for our community to our City Council, not division and distraction. I will bring integrity and people-first leadership.

I want to hear from my neighbors. I want your ideas and suggestions, I will bring them to the City Council for discussion. I will keep you advised when questions are asked and accept your input.
  • The City of Aberdeen is in need of long term jobs with a living wage and benefits.

In order to keep our neighbors here, everyone must find prosperity, purpose, and enjoyment in our city. We must feel safe, see expansion, and develop a desire in future generations to not only remain in Aberdeen but to continue to make Aberdeen successful

This all depends on bringing businesses into Aberdeen. We must attract, not just businesses, but businesses with long term employment needs, honest practices, and vision. Reasonable rent rates for local small businesses is a must because the storefronts in town need to be maintained and attractive to locals and visitors alike.
  • People-first! I want to hear from the citizens of Aberdeen. I want your calls, emails, and letters - in order to expand, create, and enjoy our city, we need ideas, and suggestions from the community. I will bring ideas to the City Council for review. To ask for your input, I will be holding frequent gatherings, posting on social media, and sharing in newspapers to make sure that the community knows what is being considered and how to respond. I will give explanations on why certain decisions were made and how it will impact the city and the community.
  • I want to see a functional City Council, a City Council without divisions, distractions, and miscommunications. All City Council members should embody ethics, transparency, and integrity. Care, compassion, and respect for the community are all essential to a successful City Council and community. People-first and a sustainable, safe, livable Aberdeen - that is my message. We can do it together.
I’m personally passionate about keeping people in their homes. Stability, rent cost, unsafe homes, are huge factors and

We don’t need currently housed folks out on the streets.

Speaking up for the voiceless and the vulnerable in our community is necessary. There are many seniors and families that are unable to or unwilling to speak out against the current costs of living. Some seniors are too proud to admit that after years of working, they now may be homeless. The folks that are in a home need to remain in their home.

The solution is not to encourage rent increases by providing government assistance for high rents, this only encourages higher rents because landlords realize they will get paid regardless of how the renter gets the cash
I look up to the survivors. Those who survive domestic violence, homelessness, addiction, mental illness, bullying, poverty, eviction, medical conditions, different abilities, condemnation, racism, gender discrimination, and more.

In the progress of day to day life, we are all presented with struggles, it is our response to these events that make us survivors. I look up to each of these individuals for their strength to survive, their willingness to start over and over again until they succeed. These are every day, sometimes minute by minute, heroes.

It takes courage, time, determination and patience and a core commitment and belief in yourself to make survival happen and this is why I look up to each of these winners.
Ethics, transparency, accountability, communication, honesty and integrity.

An elected official needs a drive and fire from within to want to serve the citizens.

An elected official is always looking at the position as a way to give back to the community regardless of personal preference. The community is the voice of individuals and the elected official should speak for the community.

An elected official must know at their core that they work for the community in every aspect. Being an elected official is to serve and represent.

Communication with members of the community is critical so that the elected official knows what the community wants, needs, and expects of him/her.

Record keeping, accountability, answering questions, all a part of ethics and honesty. In order to serve the community, you must allow the community to SEE what you are doing for them. Transparency.
The core responsibility to this office is to provide the best possible service to the community.

Responsibly to this office are to ensure that decisions that are made reflect the values of the community and are the best answer to the situation.

An elected official in this position should show up, participate, listen, share community feedback, and be respectful of others on the Council.

An elected official in this position must reply to constituents and Council members in a timely manner, research, ask others, and find answers to questions that involve the community and other Council members.

An elected official in this position must be accountable and responsible.
The legacy I would like to leave is that I did everything I could do to leave this Country and planet better than I got it. I want my great and grandchildren to know that I wanted them to have opportunities and nature and national parks and that they hopefully have learned how important it is to have empathy and care and compassion for all living things and our planet (which is a living thing).

I would also hope that everyone is accepted for who they are and skin is just a color and not a defining feature.

Love, kindness, and humanity are all features of a wonderful person.
The first historical event that I remember was when JFK was assassinated. I was 10 years old and doing a white glove, blind wiping, on a step stool, At Hickam AFB in Hawaii
My first job was a short order cook at a 5 and 10 counter. It lasted several months while I finished my last year of high school.
My favorite book, I read consistently so this is difficult, I think Deadline by Randy Alcorn. Not because I am a believer in what this book says, and I disagree with much of the beliefs in this book, but I think it gave me an insight as to what some people think about and in an entertaining and understandable way. I think the key is engaging and entertaining.
Unique.
Joe Pickett would be a fictional character I would love to be. Joe is a game warden and is out and about daily. He rides a horse, counts animals, cares for wildlife, is in nature all day, and meets all types of individuals. He does get in unique situations but somehow always survives.
A struggle in my life has been a medical issue that started in 2009. It is a daily struggle that continues and each day I face the unknown. This sometimes means I have a chance to get up and look at a day of dread or of possibilities. I have learned from this experience that looking at the positives and not focusing on what kind of day it may be, is the best way to get up and going.
Positive thinking can make the day.
I heard a touching story about a Spanish speaking individual who lived with her children in a home that was unhealthy. Mold was causing respiratory issues with her children. She had to miss work to care for them.

The landlord was charging a very high rent and refused to make any repairs. If she complained she faced eviction.

Threats, high rent, mold, sick children, no health care, missing work, this shouldn’t be happening in our Country or our State.
I’m very proud of the City Ordinance and rent Stability bill 1217 that I helped pass. These were a huge part of keeping folks in their homes. I know many folks statewide were helped and I will continue to fight and do everything I can to continue fighting for this issue.
