Based on the various issues we face in District 5, the agenda of my campaign is:
  • Bringing in investments and economic vitality to District 5 by building a more livable, walkable and sustainable business community in each neighborhood.
  • Creating permanent shelters for the homeless with basic amenities with the help of public-private partnerships as well as providing more affordable housing opportunities.
  • Providing each neighborhood with affordable and effective modes of public transportation easing traffic congestion, improving the safety of our streets, creating safer bike routes, lessening our carbon foot-print, and campaigning for extending the light rail system from Northgate to Bothell.
  • Working closely with the youth in our district for their productive engagement as well as providing them a platform to share their ideas and opinions on all issues.[2][3]

The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was May 15, 2015. All nine council seats were up for election.[4][5] In the Position 5 race, Sandy Brown and Debora Juarez advanced past Debadutta Dash, Mercedes Elizalde, Kris Lethin, Hugh Russell, David Toledo and Halei Watkins in the primary election on August 4, 2015. Juarez defeated Brown in the general election.[6]
