Debbie Marie Walsh was a member of the Akron Public Schools Board of Education in Ohio. She ran in a special election for an unexpired two-year term held on November 3, 2015.[1] Debbie Walsh (Ohio) won the general election on November 3, 2015.

Walsh was an unsuccessful candidate for the board in the general election on November 5, 2013. While the board is a nonpartisan body, Walsh works as the executive director of the Summit County Republican Party.

Walsh worked as a field operations supervisor for the Summit County Board of Elections from 2007 to 2009 before serving as Executive Director of the Summit County Republican Party.[2]

Opposition

Four of the seven seats on the Akron Public Schools Board of Education were up for election on November 3, 2015. Three of the seats up for election were for regular four-year terms. The fourth seat was on the ballot for a special two-year term.

Incumbents Tim Miller and Curtis Walker Sr. won re-election to the board. John Robert Otterman filled the other four-year term seat.[3]

Incumbent Patrick Bravo, along with candidates Summer Hall, Valerie McKitrick, Garth Starks and Ernie Tarle, were defeated in the election.[4][5]

Debbie Walsh defeated Pete Nischt for the seat with a two-year term. The unexpired term on the board was created following the resignation of member Dave Lombardi, who was appointed to a municipal judgeship. Jason Haas, a former member of the board, was appointed to fill the position until the election could be held. Haas stated at the time of his appointment that he did not intend to run in the special election for the remainder of the term.[6]

Funding

Walsh reported $5,017.84 in contributions and $2,436.24 in expenditures to the Summit County Board of Elections, which left her campaign with $2,581.60 on hand in the election.[7]

Walsh received no official endorsement for her campaign during the election.
