Deborah A. Kaplan
Deborah A. Kaplan is a judge of the New York Supreme Court 1st Judicial District.
Kaplan (Democratic Party) ran in a special election for judge of the New York Supreme Court 1st Judicial District. She won in the special general election on November 4, 2025.
Biography
Kaplan received her B.A./B.S. degrees from the State University of New York at Albany in 1982. She then received her J.D. degree from St. John's University School of Law in 1985.[1]
Kaplan began her career in 1986 as senior trial counsel for the Legal Aid Society Criminal Defense Division. In 1997, she became the principal court attorney for the Hon. Juanita Bing Newton. She then assisted the Hon. Joseph Traficanti, Jr. as Chief Management Analyst & Project Counsel in 2000 and 2001.
In 2002, Kaplan became a judge of the New York City Civil Court, assigned to the Criminal Court (4th Municipal District). She then worked as an acting justice of the Supreme Court from 2007 until she was elected a Supreme Court Justice in 2011.[1]
