Deborah Bush-Munson, Ph.D., of Mehlville, MO, is a chemistry teacher at Ritenour High School and an adjunct biology instructor at Harris-Stowe State University. Between 2015 and 2022, Bush-Munson served as a chair and site visitor for the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). • As a former Associate Professor at St. Louis Community College (STLCC), it was imperative to listen to the needs of faculty, staff, students, and the community. Faculty concerns are maintaining affordable healthcare insurance.

Therefore, as a Board of Trustees (BOT), I will advocate for the following:

    I. Reallocate unearned insurance premiums from previous years to reduce out-of-pocket costs for faculty/staff.
  • As a former program coordinator at STLCC, it was imperative to maintain compliance with programmatic accreditation(s). St. Louis Community College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). In addition, Career and Technical Education (CTE) Programs are programmatically accredited. Programmatic accreditations set standards for student-teacher ratios and hiring the appropriate number of faculty. Faculty expressed concerns regarding hiring faculty as needed. Therefore, as a Board of Trustees (BOT), I will advocate for the following: II. Hire needed, full-time faculty who enhance the best academic outcome for students.
  • At public institutions, faculty, staff, and students generally enjoy robust, First Amendment-protected rights to express concerns, engage in protest, and speak on public matters. Faculty, staff, and students have expressed and been subjected to disciplinary action and retaliation for voicing concerns. Therefore, as a BOT, I will advocate for the following: III. Promote a robust anti-retaliation policy that encourages employees, students, and staff to report unethical, illegal, or unsafe behavior without fear of punishment, fostering a transparent, compliant, and positive workplace culture.
