Deborah L. Williams is the president of Alaska Conservation Solutions and the former executive director of the Alaska Conservation Foundation. She served as executive director of the Democratic Party of Alaska from 2009 through 2011.
Career
Deborah L. Williams received her undergraduate degree from Pomona College and her J.D. from Harvard Law School. While in law school, Williams founded the Harvard Environmental Law Review and served as the publication's co-editor-in-chief. Following graduation, Williams served in the Solicitors Honors Program with the U.S. Department of the Interior in Washington, D.C. She relocated to Alaska and worked for the National Park Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. From 1981 through 1994, Williams served as the executive director of the Alaska Consumer Advocacy Program and the Alaska Lung Association while continuing to practice law.[1][2]
Williams received a presidential appointment in 1994 to serve as the assistant secretary of the interior for Alaska. Following the term of her appointment, Williams worked for six years as executive director of the Alaska Conservation Foundation, a nonprofit organization aimed at protecting the environment and diverse cultures of Alaska. She later became president of Alaska Conservation Solutions, an organization concerned with the impact of global warming.[1][2][3]
In addition to her government and advocacy work, Williams served as executive director of the Democratic Party of Alaska from 2009 through 2011.[4][5][6]
In 2013, Campaigns & Elections magazine named Williams to the Influencers 500—a list of key Democratic and Republican political influencers in each state—for her work in Democratic Alaska politics.[4]
