Three of the nine at-large seats on the Wappingers Central School District Board of Education were up for general election on May 19, 2015. The election shared the ballot with the school district's annual budget vote. Voters could vote for all three seats in this election on a joint ballot. The three candidates who received the most votes were elected to the board.

The seats held by incumbents Ved Shravah, Robert Rubin and Douglass Bitteker were on the ballot. Bitteker did not file to run for re-election, ensuring at least one newcomer would join the board. Shravah and Rubin faced four challengers—Deborah Torres Henning, Karen Mauhs Karath, Anne LaValle and Babu Munusamy—in their bids for re-election.

Ultimately, Rubin retained his seat while Shravah was defeated. Returning candidate LaValle and newcomer Karath won the other two seats up for election.

Henning highlighted the following issues on her campaign website:

For those of you who do not know me, please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Deborah Torres Henning, I have lived in the Wappingers Central School District for 9 years with my husband Matt and our 4 children – 3 of which are currently attending WCSD schools. One in Gayhead and two in Van Wyck. I have one special needs child and understand the concerns of many in similar situations. I have been very active at the WCSD BOE meetings, and because of my two years of attending the BOE meetings and seeing the board is NOT comprised of people who actually care and listen to the concerns of the children and the taxpayers, I have decided to run for a school board trustee position in the upcoming election May 19th.

I have watched and attended many board meetings where parents and concerned citizens were rudely dismissed and concerns from the public fall on deaf ears. Most recently, watching the debacle unfold regarding redistricting, it became crystal clear that we MUST re-vamp the WCSD Board of Education. They speak of transparency, but supply none. They claim to listen to the community concerns, but consistently vote against community outrage. They claim to have the children's best interests at heart, but the children are an after thought in their decision making.

If you have grown weary of the antics of this board, as I have, I would like to enlist your help and support in electing me to one of the 3 trustee positions open for election. I would like to have deeper discussions with the community, a dialogue in fact, to discuss the top concerns plaguing our district right now: redistricting, feeder patterns, class size, special needs children all but forgotten in the shuffle, common core, excessive standardized testing, diminishing school extra curricular activities, school taxes and unfunded mandates. I'm sure there are many more concerns and I would like to discuss them with all of you. As your choice for school board trustee I will do my due diligence to listen to the concerns you have and act as your voice.

I am very open to discussion on the topics YOU would like to discuss, so please feel free to ask away. And please remember to VOTE on May 19th, 2015 – only YOU can change what needs to be changed...[6]
