Vinson highlighted why she is running for the Antioch Unified Board of Trustees on her campaign website:
“ | Safety: Promoting a school climate and culture of caring and empathy is crucial to preventing violence on all school campuses. Focusing on safety and preventing violence in school positively impacts the academic environment. Social emotional skill practice must be a daily experience in the classroom and on school campuses so students can have a transfer of learning. Preventing bullying and cyber bullying at school must be a core focus on all campuses. Many students are suspended and expelled due to their disruptive and aggressive behaviors but this does not address or prevent future occurrences. I will work collaboratively to improve disciplinary practices so our schools can return to being a respectful and safe environment by improving opportunities for students to develop citizenship. 2) Financial: AUSD has operated from a stated deficit in the past 3 years and today continue to project deficit spending despite receiving over 126 million in Local Control Funding Formula to improve academic outcomes for disadvantaged students. I will bring transparency and make sure that the budget is clear and comprehensible to the families and the community of Antioch. AUSD used to have a reserve of 25, 000, 000; currently all projections for future dollars has a listed deficit of over 8 million dollars for the next 3 years. I will work to bring transparency and make sure that the budget is clear to the community and families. I will collaboratively seek to improve disciplinary practices such as suspending students because it negatively impacts the bottom line. |
