DOVER, Delaware: Three state executive positions - attorney general, state auditor and state treasurer - are up for election in 2014 in the state of Delaware. On July 8, the filing period for Republican and Democratic candidates came to a close, with the filing deadline for all other candidates passing one week later. In total, ten candidates filed for the three seats, including five Democrats, four Republicans and one Green Party candidate.[1][2]

  • Incumbent Attorney General of Delaware Beau Biden (D) opted not to run for re-election in 2014, instead declaring his candidacy for governor in 2016. Vying to replace Biden as the state's chief law officer is current Delaware Lieutenant Governor Matthew Denn. Denn is term-limited from seeking a third term as lieutenant governor in 2016. No other Democrats filed for the upcoming attorney general primary. Denn will face Republican attorney Ted Kittila, likewise unopposed for his party's primary nomination, in the general election. The general election took place on November 4, 2014.

The remaining two incumbents are running for re-election to their current posts:

The primary election is scheduled for September 9, 2014. A primary election is an election in which registered voters select a candidate that they believe should be a political party's candidate for elected office to run in the general election. They are also used to choose convention delegates and party leaders. Primaries are state-level and local-level elections that take place prior to a general election. Delaware utilizes a closed primary process, in which the selection of a party's candidates in an election is limited to registered party members.[3]
