Delaware justice announces retirement

Delaware: Justice Myron Steele has announced his plan to retire from the Delaware Supreme Court on November 30, 2013. The 68-year-old justice has served on the court since 2004 and his current term was not set to expire until 2016. Prior to joining the state supreme court, Steele served on the Superior Court and the Court of Chancery.
Gov. Jack Markell commented:
| “ | A judiciary is only as good as the men and women who serve in it, and quite simply, Chief Justice Steele is as good as they get. He has been a tireless and forceful advocate for our state’s judiciary and indeed, for the entire State of Delaware.[1][2] | ” |
The governor may now make an appointment to replace Justice Steele. The Delaware Judicial Nominating Commission will review and recommend candidates for the governor and the Delaware Senate must approve the governor's appointment.[1]
