Delia Garcia
Delia Garcia is the former Kansas Secretary of Labor, serving from 2019 to 2020. She was named acting secretary in January 2019 by Gov. Laura Kelly (D). Garcia was confirmed by the Kansas State Senate on May 3, 2019, and she was sworn into office on June 5, 2019.[1][2] She resigned from the position effective June 21, 2020, following concerns around the Department of Labor's handling of unemployment claims during the coronavirus pandemic.[3]
Garcia was a Democratic member of the Kansas House of Representatives, representing the 103rd District. She served from 2005 to 2011.
Biography
Garcia, who has a master's in political science from Saint Mary's University, has worked as a professor at Butler County Community College as well as an assistant manager at Connie's Mexico Cafe.[4]
Policy Positions
Garcia refused to take Project Vote Smart's 2008 Political Courage Test. The test, which is administered to all candidates for presidential, congressional, gubernatorial, and state legislative offices, asks one central question - "Are you willing to tell citizens your positions on the issues you will most likely face on their behalf?"[5]
