Delonia A. Watson participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on May 8, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Delonia A. Watson's responses follow below.[3]
What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
“ | 1) Rendering just and well-reasoned opinions 2) Maintaining consistency in opinions |
” |
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?
“ | The availability of a good educational system to everyone, regardless of the school district in which the child lives.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[5]
|
” |
Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Delonia A. Watson answered the following:
Is there a particular judge, past or present, whom you admire?
“ | I greatly admired Judge Henry Politz of the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit. He was well respected by everyone for his knowledge of the law, his work ethic, his humor, and his congeniality toward the attorneys appearing before him. I hope to model any judicial position I attain after him.[5] | ” |
“ | Most people do not know that, in Texas, the Courts of Appeals are the only courts to which you have an absolute right to appeal civil or criminal matters. In order to appeal to the Supreme Court of Texas or the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, a person must petition for review.[5] | ” |
“ | I have worked in the area of appellate advocacy for most of my legal career. I know that I am qualified for the position of appellate judge. I believe this to be the logical step in my career.[5] | ” |
“ | I don't believe that you necessarily need judicial experience, but you definitely need experience in the field of appellate law.[5] | ” |
