The Democratic Party of Nebraska is the Nebraska political party affiliate of the national Democratic Party. The group is headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The party is composed of a governing body and numerous committees.[1]


Party chair

Jane Kleeb

Jane Kleeb was elected as chair in 2016 and re-elected three times.[2]

Kleeb is an experienced grassroots organizer, author, manager, political strategist, and nonprofit entrepreneur. She previously served as the Nebraska State Director of the SEIU Change That Works Project.[3]




Party leadership

As of April 2024, the executive director of the Nebraska Democratic Party was Precious McKesson.[4]

The party's stated platform approved in 2022 is composed of 41 issues:[6]

  • Economic development
    "We Support​: 1. An active role by the State of Nebraska to fulfill its responsibility to provide a business climate which encourages economic growth. 2. Measures by state officials to promote and encourage quality job creation, entrepreneurship training and national and international marketing of the state’s goods and services."
  • Public education
    "We Support​: 49.Public school options for all students. 50. Accessible and high-quality Early Childhood Education as a fundamental right for all children starting at birth. 51.Excellence in education for all students from birth through grade 16 regardless of family income."
  • Government
    "We Support​: 77.The principles and the importance of the constitutionally guaranteed separation of church and state. 78.Government that is open, responsive and accountable to the will of citizens. 79.Nebraska’s laws requiring open meetings and access to public records."
  • Human services
    "We Support​: 197. The family, in all of its forms, as the core unit of society. 198. Efforts by all levels of government to provide all Nebraskans with: (a) Safe, decent, affordable housing; (b) Adequate nutrition; (c) Protection from violence, neglect and abuse; (d) Job training; (e) Comprehensive and holistic health care."
  • Natural resources
    "We Support​: 230. Public and private measures for effective husbandry of natural resources including minerals, forests, water, fertile land and other materials that occur in nature and can be used for economic gain or have aesthetic value. 231. The state party is governed by a set of rules and bylaws. Typically, these give structure to the different levels of organization—local, county, and state committees—and establish protocol for electing committee members. The bylaws also typically give details on the party's process for nominating and sending delegates to the national party convention during presidential elections. The following is a selection of the Nebraska Democratic Party's rules. This selection focuses on the structure and governance of the party:[7]

  • The State Central Committee (SCC) shall be the policy-making body of the state party during the interim between state conventions, and shall be responsible for the building of the Nebraska Democratic Party. The State Central Committee shall promote the implementation of the party platform and the election of Democratic candidates. The State Central Committee shall be the ruling authority in the interpretation and defense of the Constitution and Bylaws of the Nebraska Democratic Party during the interim between State Conventions. The State Central Committee shall have the authority to adopt and revise Bylaws governing its organization and the organization and function of committees subordinate to it. (2.A)
  • The State Executive Committee (SEC) shall be authorized to execute the policies and procedures of the State Central Committee during the interim between State Central Committee meetings. Decisions by the State Executive Committee shall be reported to the State Central Committee at its next meeting with the understanding that these decisions may be reviewed, revised, or reversed. The State Executive Committee shall be responsible ultimately to the State Central Committee for its actions. (3.A)
  • The following are the officers of the Nebraska Democratic Party: State Chair, First Associate Chair, Second Associate Chair, National Committeeman, National Committeewoman, Congressional District Chairs and Associate Chairs (of the opposite sex) of the respective Congressional Districts, State Secretary, and State Treasurer.
