Biography
Denise Barela-Shepherd received her undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University and her J.D. from the University of New Mexico.[1] Prior to her appointment to the Second Judicial District, she was a Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court judge from 1997 to 2003. Barela-Shepherd also previously worked as general counsel for the New Mexico Department of Health and as an attorney in private practice.[1]
