Dennis R. Bagneris, Sr. was a judge on the Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal, First District, Division C. He was first elected to the court in 1999, and his last term would have expired on December 31, 2018.[1][2] He retired in 2016.

Education

A native of New Orleans, Judge Bagneris is a graduate of St. Augustine High School. He earned a B.A. in history and political science from Xavier University of New Orleans in 1970. He later earned a master's degree in guidance and counseling from Xavier University and a J.D. in 1981 from Tulane University Law School.

Career

Judge Barneris was a case worker for the Louisiana Department of Public Welfare, a probation officer in the New Orleans Alcohol Safety Action Project, and a recruiter and counselor at Xavier University until he graduated from law school. He began his legal career in 1980 as a public defender in the New Orleans Indigent Defender Program. He was elected Louisiana state senator in 1983 and served as president pro tempore of the Louisiana Senate from 1992 to 1999, when he was elected judge on the Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal.[1]

Judge Bagneris has received numerous awards in his career, including: the Concerned Citizens for Better Government Appreciation Award (1985); the Crusade Award, Louisiana Voter Registration Education (1986); the American Association of Retired Persons award (1990); the Citizen Reddy Education award (1992); and the Louisiana Association of the Deaf award (1993).
