Dennis C. Eckold was a judge for Division 5 of the Missouri 6th Judicial Associate Circuit Court. He assumed office in 2010. He left office on April 1, 2023.

Eckold ran for re-election for the Division 5 judge of the Missouri 6th Judicial Associate Circuit Court. He won in the retention election on November 3, 2020.

He was appointed to the court by Governor Jay Nixon (D) on May 6, 2010. Eckold was appointed to fill the seat that opened when Gary Witt was elevated to the Missouri Court of Appeals.[1] Eckold was retained in 2012 and 2016.[2]

Missouri held general elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. A primary election took place on August 2, 2016. The filing deadline for those wishing to run in the primary was March 29, 2016. Judges running in a retention election on November 8 had to file by August 23.[3] Dennis C. Eckold was retained in the Missouri 6th Circuit, Division 5, Associate Judge election with 68.33 percent of the vote. [4]

Judicial selection method

The judges of the Missouri Circuit Courts in Clay, Greene, Jackson, Platte, and St. Louis counties and the city of St. Louis are appointed by the governor with the help of a judicial selection commission.[5]

The chief judge of each court is elected by the circuit and associate judges from among the sitting circuit judges.[6]

Qualifications
To serve on this court, a judge must be:

  • a U.S. citizen for at least 10 years;
  • a qualified state voter for at least three years;
  • a resident of the circuit for at least one year;
  • licensed to practice law in the state; and
  • at least 30 years old.[6]
