Dennis A. Cornell is a former justice of the Fifth District of the California Courts of Appeal. He retired from the bench in June 2015.[1] Cornell was appointed by Governor Gray Davis and sworn in on December 21, 2000. Cornell was retained by voters in 2002 and 2014.[2][3]

Education

Cornell graduated from Stanford University in 1969. He then attended to The National Law Center, George Washington University, receiving his J.D. in 1972.[4]

Career

Cornell began his law career in 1972 as an attorney in private practice in Merced. He practiced law there for 20 years. From 1986 to 1992, he also served as a part-time magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California. In 1992, Cornell was appointed to the Merced County Superior Court, where he served until his appointment to the Court of Appeal.[4]

Cornell was retained to the 5th District Court of Appeal with 67.0 percent of the vote on November 4, 2014. [3]
