Dennis Powers was a district court judge for the 52nd District Court in Michigan.[1] He assumed the bench on May 11, 1998, and was re-elected to the court on November 2, 2010, to a six-year term that would have ended in 2016.[2][3] However, Powers retired early from the bench on September 1, 2014, amid allegations of misconduct while in office. In June 2014, the Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission filed a formal complaint against Powers citing fraudulent mileage reimbursement reporting, fraudulent reimbursements for conferences Powers had not attended or were not work-related, misuse of court equipment, and excessive tardiness when he was supposed to be on the bench.[4][5][6]

Education

Powers received his undergraduate and master's degree from the University of Detroit. He then received his J.D. degree from the University of Detroit College of Law in 1974.[2]

Career

Before he became a judge, Powers served as a commissioner for Oakland County from 1993 to 1998.[2]
