An effort in Grovetown, Georgia, to recall City Councilman Dennis Trudeau from his position was launched in August 2016. The Columbia County Board of Elections received an application for recall with 115 signatures from city residents on August 26, 2016.[1] This application was rejected after 27 signatures were found invalid by the county by September 2, 2016. Organizer Allen Transou told The Columbia County News-Times that he would initiate a second petition after the county's decision.[2] Transou turned in a second application for recall on September 21, 2016.[3] On October 5, 2016, the recall was ended after a judge ruled there was insufficient evidence to proceed with a recall election.[4]
Recall supporters
Transou submitted an application for recall alleging that Trudeau violated his oath of office by making a verbal threat to Mayor Gary Jones during a federal investigation of former city clerk Vicky Capetillo. Capetillo, who is Trudeau's stepdaughter, faced an investigation into accusations of misappropriated public funds at the time of the recall application.[1]
Transou also accused Trudeau of misconduct in office for failing to contact each council member prior to a special meeting. The meeting was called by Trudeau to seek an independent attorney for an investigation of the mayor's office. Trudeau's request for an investigation was rejected by the council.[1]

In September 2016, county election officials determined that Transou's application for recall did not contain at least 100 valid signatures. Recall signatures must come from city residents who were eligible to vote in the city's November 2015 election.[1]
