I am a community leader and activist who has worked on issues that our community cares about, including fighting for a higher minimum wage, paid sick leave, increased transparency, and more citizen participation in our government. We are at a pivotal time, a time in which we can further a progressive agenda in our district and in Illinois. I am the only candidate in this race with a proven record of leadership helping to set that agenda.

From starting a gun safety nonprofit that successfully helped to pass landmark gun safety laws in Illinois, to leading the effort to pass an assault weapons ban in Skokie, and advocating for a higher minimum wage and paid sick leave in Skokie and Lincolnwood, I am the only candidate who has demonstrated that I have - and will continue - to fight for the residents of our community.

  • I have been instrumental in passing meaningful gun safety legislation in Illinois. I founded the gun violence prevention nonprofit, People for a Safer Society, after the Sandy Hook School shooting. I helped pass landmark legislation that has made people in Illinois safer, including Gun Dealer Certification and the Firearms Restraining Order law.
  • I believe reproductive rights are human rights. I unequivocally believe in a woman's right to choose.
  • I am a product of and an advocate for public education. I have been endorsed by four teachers unions that believe I am the best candidate in this race to fight for teachers and public education--the Chicago Teachers Union, the Cook County College Teachers Union, the Illinois Federation of Teachers, and North Suburban Teachers Union, IFT-AFT Local 1274.
Gun Violence Prevention

- Strengthen the Firearms Owner Identification Card (FOID) system
- Ban assault weapons and large capacity magazines
- Require background checks for every gun sale
- Keep guns out of schools and places of worship

Pro-Choice
- Protect women's constitutional right to choose their own healthcare.
- I have been endorsed by Planned Parenthood, Personal PAC, Men4Choice, and the National Organization for Women

Education
- Fully fund public schools including K-12 and higher education
- Create an elected school board in the City of Chicago
- Make higher education affordable for low- and middle-income families
- I have been endorsed by the Chicago Teachers Union, the Cook County College Teachers Union, the Illinois Federation of Teachers, and North Suburban Teachers Union, IFT-AFT Local 1274

Environment
- Pass the Clean Energy Jobs Act
- Move Illinois toward 100% renewable energy by 2050
- Ban fracking on public lands
- I have been endorsed by the Sierra Club

Good Government
- Minimize the influence of large contributors through campaign finance reform
- Ban lawmakers from lobbying
- Create a two-year cooling off period before lawmakers can become lobbyists
- I have been endorsed by IVI-IPO

Taxes
- Pass the Fair Tax, which would generate $3.4 billion in much-needed funding while providing tax relief to 97% of Illinois residents

- Modify the Tax Increment Financing law to make sure it is used to rebuild blighted communities and

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Illinois

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
