Questions over extending term
In March 2011, the Mohave County Supervisors denied Carlisle's reappointment as a judge pro tempore. The supervisors, who are responsible for approving interim judges, expressed concerns over a death penalty case that Carlisle, an unelected official, was presiding over. Since the meeting where his extension was denied, proponents for the judge have contacted the board on his behalf.[7]
Term extended
In early April 2011, Carlisle was reappointed as a judge pro tempore. The compromise reached over concerns of an unelected judge hearing death penalty cases will only affect judges in the future. In the meantime, Carlisle's term was extended until June 30, 2012.[8]
