Derek Matthew Begay was a candidate for the District 3 seat on the Gallup-McKinley County Schools Board of Education in the New Mexico general election on February 3, 2015.[1] He was defeated by fellow challenger Priscilla B. Manuelito.

The election in Gallup-McKinley County Schools featured two of the five board seats up for general election on February 3, 2015. District 1 incumbent Kevin M. Mitchell and District 3 incumbent Mavis Victoria Price were up for re-election. Mitchell ran against two challengers, Prestene Garnenez and Olin T. Kieyoomia, and won re-election. Price faced three challengers, Leonard Francisco Jr., Priscilla B. Manuelito and Derek Matthew Begay. Manuelito defeated Price to win the District 3 seat.

Funding

The New Mexico Secretary of State's Office requires school board candidates in districts with an enrollment of 12,000 students or more to file an annual report each year. Candidates running for a seat on this district's school board had to file that annual report by April 13, 2015.[2]
