Derel Stroud is an independent candidate who ran for lieutenant governor of New Jersey in the 2017 election. He and gubernatorial candidate Gina Genovese were defeated in the November 7, 2017, election.

Biography

A graduate of Brookdale Community College and Seton Hall University, Stroud worked as an organizer for Jon Corzine's 2009 re-election bid, Cory Booker's 2010 re-election campaign, Rush Holt's 2010 re-election campaign, and Barbara Buono's 2013 gubernatorial campaign. In 2012, Stroud interned in the office of Sen. Frank Lautenberg. Later that year, he coordinated the Democratic Party's election efforts across four counties. In 2014, Stroud founded a consulting firm, Dude I'm Right Here, LLC. As of his lieutenant gubernatorial run, Stroud was still the firm's owner and principal.[1]

On July 25, 2017, InsiderNJ reported that independent gubernatorial candidate Gina Genovese had selected Stroud as her running mate. As of August 27, 2017, the Division of Elections' official candidate list did not have a running mate listed for Genovese.[2][3]
