I am a dedicated advocate for racial and economic equity, a respected political and community organizer, and a staunch proponent of criminal justice reform. My journey began with personal struggles, navigating the challenges of the juvenile justice system and the school-to-prison pipeline. Despite facing expulsion from school and the prospect of significant time behind bars, I managed to avoid prison by the grace of God.

My commitment to social justice led me to organize impactful movements such as Black Lives Matter, Dream Defenders, and the Black Youth Project, among others, across the nation. These experiences shaped my passion for creating a more equitable society.

In addition to my advocacy work, I hold a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration, reflecting my dedication to educational advancement and empowerment. As a father of two beautiful daughters, I am inspired daily to strive for a better future for them and for all children.

Currently, I am running for Greenville County Council, driven by my desire to enact positive change at the local level.
  • Economic Empowerment in District 25: I'm dedicated to rolling up my sleeves and getting results for District 25. That means fighting to bring in jobs that pay well and investing in workforce development programs to ensure my nieghbors have the skills they need to succeed. I'll work tirelessly to make sure everyone in our district has the opportunity to build a better future for themselves and their families.
  • Community Engagement in District 25: I believe in being a hands-on advocate for our community. From hosting town hall meetings to knocking on doors, I'll be out there, listening to the concerns of our neighbors and fighting for the solutions we need. Together, we'll make sure no one in District 25 gets left behind.
  • I have established relationships with key law enforcement figures and agencies like the sheriff, chief of police, mayor, SLED, and the FBI, which means we have a unique opportunity to enhance public safety efforts in District 25. By leveraging these partnerships, we can develop comprehensive strategies to combat gun violence, prioritize community policing initiatives, and ensure that our neighborhoods remain safe and secure for all residents. With collaborative action and strong leadership, we can make tangible progress in addressing public safety concerns and fostering a thriving community in District 25.
I am personally passionate about economic development, education, social justice, and environmental sustainability. I believe in fostering economic growth, supporting education initiatives, fighting for social justice, and protecting our environment for future generations. These areas of public policy are central to creating a thriving and equitable community for all residents.
County Council occupies a unique and vital role within the government and legal system. It serves as the bridge between county government and the residents, municipalities, and agencies within its jurisdiction. This means that County Council members are not only responsible for representing the interests and concerns of their constituents but also for advocating for their needs when interacting with other levels of government.

One of the most significant responsibilities of County Council is approving the annual budget, which funds essential county operations and services. This includes determining taxes and fees necessary to support these operations. As stewards of taxpayer dollars, County Council members play a critical role in ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency in the allocation of public funds.

Overall, County Council holds a unique position of influence and responsibility, serving as the voice of the community and working to address the needs and priorities of its residents. As a candidate, I recognize the importance of this role and am committed to representing the interests of District 25 with integrity, accountability, and dedication.
I deeply admire Nelson Mandela for his incredible resilience, bravery, and unwavering commitment to justice and peace. Despite enduring years of hardship, including unjust imprisonment, he never lost hope or his belief in the power of forgiveness and reconciliation.

What inspires me most about Mandela is his humility and compassion. Despite being a global icon, he remained grounded and always prioritized the well-being of others, especially children. His dedication to education, even while in prison, shows his determination to constantly learn and grow.

Mandela's journey from activist to president serves as a reminder that one person can truly make a difference in the world. His life story teaches us the importance of standing up for what is right, even when it's difficult, and never giving up hope for a better future.

As I strive to serve my community, I aspire to embody Mandela's values of compassion, resilience, and unwavering dedication to justice. He continues to be a source of inspiration for me and countless others around the world.
I would highly recommend "The Audacity of Hope" by Barack Obama as a reflection of my political philosophy. In this book, Obama presents a vision for politics that transcends bitter partisanship and focuses on inclusivity, empathy, and the common good. He explores the challenges facing our democracy and offers insights into how we can move beyond division to tackle pressing issues together. Obama's emphasis on the importance of faith, inclusiveness, and the nobility of spirit resonates with my belief in the power of collaboration, integrity, and service to the community. "The Audacity of Hope" serves as a reminder of the potential for positive change when we embrace hope, empathy, and a shared sense of purpose in our political discourse and actions.
The most important characteristics of an elected official are integrity, transparency, empathy, and a commitment to serving the community. Integrity ensures that elected officials act with honesty and uphold ethical standards in their decision-making. Transparency fosters trust and accountability by keeping constituents informed about the actions and decisions of their representatives. Empathy allows elected officials to understand and address the needs and concerns of diverse communities with compassion and understanding. Finally, a genuine commitment to serving the community means prioritizing the well-being and interests of constituents above personal or political gain. These principles form the foundation of effective and responsible governance, ensuring that elected officials truly represent the voices and values of the people they serve.
I possess several qualities that I believe would contribute to my success as an officeholder. One of these qualities is my deep commitment to serving my community with integrity, empathy, and dedication. I genuinely care about the well-being of others and am passionate about making a positive impact.

Additionally, I am an effective communicator and collaborator. I believe in listening to diverse perspectives, finding common ground, and working together to achieve common goals. My ability to build relationships and work across differences would enable me to effectively represent the needs and concerns of my constituents.

Furthermore, I am a strategic thinker and problem-solver. I am able to analyze complex issues, develop innovative solutions, and implement practical strategies to address challenges facing our community. My willingness to take initiative and tackle tough issues head-on would serve me well in office.

Overall, my combination of passion, communication skills, collaborative spirit, and problem-solving abilities positions me to be a successful and effective officeholder dedicated to serving the best interests of my constituents.
The core responsibilities of someone elected to this office revolve around serving the needs of the community, fostering transparency, and upholding the principles of accountability and integrity. Elected officials must prioritize representing the interests and concerns of their constituents, making informed decisions that benefit the community as a whole. Additionally, they have a responsibility to communicate openly with constituents, seek input on important issues, and respond to their concerns with empathy and respect. Upholding transparency and accountability ensures that government operations are conducted ethically and that taxpayer dollars are used efficiently and effectively. Overall, I believe that elected officials should serve as stewards of the public trust, working diligently to advance the well-being and interests of the community they serve.
The legacy I aspire to leave is one of positive impact and meaningful change in my community. I want to be remembered as someone who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of others, whether it's through advocating for social justice, championing equal opportunities, or fostering a sense of unity and belonging.

I hope to leave behind a legacy of compassion, empathy, and resilience—qualities that inspire others to stand up for what is right and make a difference in the world. Ultimately, I want my legacy to be a testament to the power of collective action and the enduring impact of serving others selflessly.
The first memorable event from my childhood was when I found an alive fish on the daycare playground at the age of six. A bird flying overhead dropped the fish, and I stumbled upon it. I named it Lucky, and the local newspaper even featured me on the front page with Lucky! It was an unexpected and fascinating experience that sparked my sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around me.
My very first job was as a customer service associate at CVS Pharmacy. I started working there when I was 16 and stayed for five years. It was a valuable experience that taught me the importance of teamwork, customer service, and responsibility. I'm grateful for the skills and lessons I learned during my time there, which laid the foundation for my work ethic and dedication to serving others.
While the passage presents a fictional story, it touches on profound themes that resonate with real-life struggles and dilemmas. It makes me think about the complexities of personal beliefs and the challenges we face when our values clash with the actions of those around us.

It's a reminder that our loyalties and convictions can be tested in unexpected ways, especially in times of adversity. We may find ourselves grappling with difficult choices and questioning what we stand for.

For me, this passage evokes feelings of empathy and introspection. It prompts me to reflect on the importance of staying true to our principles and standing up for what is right, even when it's difficult or unpopular. It reminds me of the power of compassion and the courage it takes to defy injustice and oppression.

Ultimately, it reinforces the idea that our actions, no matter how small, can have a profound impact on others. It encourages me to strive to be someone who acts with integrity and kindness, even in the face of adversity.
If I were to imagine stepping into someone else's shoes, it wouldn't be a fictional character; it would be my maternal great-grandfather. He was an extraordinary man who was born in 1910 and built a thriving concrete business. What makes him truly special to me is how he used his success to support his family and uplift his community.

He didn't just build a business; he created opportunities for his brothers, enabling them to travel the country and earn a living alongside him. But his impact went beyond entrepreneurship. In a time when racial inequality was pervasive, he took a brave stand as the first black man in our hometown of McCormick, SC, to register to vote.

Even though I never had the chance to meet him, his legacy has profoundly influenced me. I see echoes of his courage and determination in the work I do today. By continuing his legacy of empowerment and advocacy, I can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others, just as he did.
The lyrics of "More Than Able" by Elevation Worship resonate with me deeply. They remind me of times when I've questioned my faith and doubted the power of divine intervention in my life. Like the lyrics, I've found myself wondering when I started to forget the great things that have happened and why I sometimes struggle to believe in miracles.

But ultimately, the song's message reassures me of the limitless power and ability of the divine. It reminds me that God is more than able to overcome any obstacle and that I should never doubt His capability to work wonders in my life.

This song serves as a source of encouragement and faith, reminding me to trust in God's sovereignty and to surrender my doubts and fears to Him. It's a reminder that, despite my own limitations and struggles, God is always there, more than able to guide me through any challenge or trial.
One struggle I've faced in my life is the pressure of being an overachiever. From a young age, I've always pushed myself to excel in everything I do, whether it's academics, extracurricular activities, or personal goals. While this drive has propelled me to many successes, it has also led to feelings of stress, burnout, and self-doubt at times.

Learning to balance ambition with self-care and maintaining healthy boundaries has been an ongoing journey for me. It's about recognizing that it's okay to strive for excellence but also important to prioritize my well-being and mental health along the way. Through self-reflection, support from loved ones, and practicing mindfulness, I continue to navigate this challenge and strive for a more balanced approach to life.
One little-known but significant power held by County Council is its authority to allocate funds and determine budget priorities. As a County Council member, I recognize the immense impact that funding decisions can have on our community. It's not just about balancing numbers—it's about investing in the organizations and initiatives that are making a real difference in people's lives.

By directing funds to community organizations and projects, County Council members have the power to support vital services, address pressing needs, and uplift underserved communities. This includes funding for local nonprofits, programs for youth and seniors, infrastructure improvements, and much more.

It's essential for voters to be aware of this power and to understand the importance of electing leaders who will use it wisely and responsibly. As a candidate, I am committed to advocating for equitable funding allocations that prioritize the well-being and prosperity of all residents in District 25.
While previous experience in government or politics can certainly provide valuable insights and knowledge, what truly matters in holding this office is a genuine commitment to serving the people and making a positive impact in the community. My experience working in the South Carolina Senate and on numerous political campaigns has equipped me with valuable skills and understanding of the political process. However, what sets me apart is my heartfelt dedication to serving the residents of District 25 and striving to create positive change. I firmly believe that leadership rooted in compassion, integrity, and a genuine desire to improve the lives of others is what truly makes a difference in public service. As a candidate, I am committed to bringing fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and unwavering dedication to the role, regardless of previous political experience.
Effective leadership in this role is a blend of various skills and qualities. Being able to communicate effectively is crucial. It means not just speaking but truly listening to the concerns and aspirations of our community members. Financial literacy is also key. Understanding how budget decisions impact people's lives is vital for making informed choices that benefit everyone.

Problem-solving skills are invaluable for tackling the challenges our district faces. Whether it's improving infrastructure or addressing community safety, finding creative solutions is essential. And let's not forget the importance of working together across party lines. In our diverse community, collaboration is essential for getting things done and making real progress.

But most importantly, being driven by integrity, empathy, and a genuine desire to serve is what sets a good leader apart. It's about putting the needs of our community above all else and striving to make a positive difference in people's lives every day.
One of the funniest moments in my life is spending time with my two-year-old and four-year-old daughters. They have an uncanny ability to bring joy and laughter into every moment with their innocent antics and adorable personalities. Whether it's their silly dance moves, imaginative play, or hilarious attempts at telling jokes, they never fail to make me smile. Their genuine laughter and pure happiness are the best jokes I could ever ask for, and I cherish every moment spent with them.
As of now, our campaign has garnered endorsements from 30 esteemed pastors within our community, along with support from over 50 influential community leaders. While organizational endorsements are currently pending closer to the primary, we are grateful for the overwhelming support we've received from these individuals who share our vision for positive change and progress in our district. However, Rev. Jesse L. Jackson has endorsed me and have given me his full support.
Financial transparency and government accountability are not just buzzwords—they're essential pillars of trust between elected officials and the community. I firmly believe that taxpayers have the right to know how their hard-earned money is being spent. That means clear and accessible financial reports, open discussions about budget decisions, and full disclosure of funding sources.

But it's not just about numbers on a page. Accountability means being there for the community, listening to concerns, and taking action when needed. When elected to council, I'll be responsive, accessible, and willing to answer tough questions. I believe that by being transparent and accountable, we can build trust and work together to create positive change in our district.
