I am a family physician and soccer coach living in Rancho Peñasquitos with my wife and two children ages 6 and 3. I grew up in Irvine, Orange County attending public schools, and have three degrees from UC San Diego in political science, clinical research, and medicine.

I am running for PUSD School Board to bring the fresh and needed perspective of a community health center physician to the decision table. I will prioritize the mental and emotional health of PUSD students, with a particular focus on building district policy around screen time and social media. As a medical director, I will use my knowledge of clinic finances to help us solve current budget shortfalls.

As a family physician at City Heights Family Health Center, I care for a wonderfully diverse group of patients from all over the world. I am proficient in Spanish and enjoy serving as a primary care doctor for Hispanic patients, as well as refugees from Haiti, Southeast Asia, Somalia, and Afghanistan. In 2023, I led the rollout of a clinical treatment pathway for patients with alcohol use disorder that emphasizes de-stigmatization and expedited treatment by primary care physicians.

At the state level, I am a member of the Medi-Cal Contract Drug Advisory Committee, which helps determine medicines covered for the approximately 15 million Californians insured under Medi-Cal.
  • Build policy that prioritizes the mental and emotional health of PUSD students, especially around social media and screen time.
  • Incorporate data to improve educational outcomes, so that our PUSD graduates are ready to take center stage in a global economy.
  • Manage our budget through a meticulous approach of decreasing administrative waste and maximizing resources for our students.
I admire former California Senator Barbara Boxer, who once sent me a letter in response to an assignment I had in sixth grade. She was a trailblazing leader for California and worked tirelessly to represent us in the Senate.
Integrity, because we must be able to trust that our elected officials are acting in the best interest of our children and community members. I also believe that curiosity is essential, so that our elected officials are always listening to community members and trying to make policy that better reflects the community's needs.
A school board trustee has three key constituencies: the students, employees including teachers, staff and administrators, and the larger community. The trustee must constantly balance the competing demands of these three constituencies, while always prioritizing the needs of students to have a rewarding educational experience. A trustee must also exercise fiscal stewardship, cherishing taxpayer dollars to maximize the in-class experience while maintaining sufficient reserves in the rainy day fund.
I have the endorsement of more than 150 community members, including current school board trustees, parents, teachers, and administrators. As the campaign continues, I will work with the teachers' union and classified employees' union to court their endorsements. I will also work with PTO and foundation members at all the local schools in my trustee area.
