I grew up in a small city on the outskirts of New Orleans, Louisiana. I came to live in Alabama 2019. I have been a factory worker, and have held various security officer positions. This includes my current position at the UAB Police Department as a security officer. I have studied philosophy, political science, and economics, including at Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL.
- 1. That elected officials are public servants, not public masters. They should be held responsible for their actions or inaction.
- 2. Pinson is not Mayberry. In reality, as a class 7 municipality, Pinson is in the top 10% of Alabama cities by population. The "we're just a small town" rhetoric from city officials an attempt to hide their laziness and incompetence by making people think a Class 7 Municipality has no power to
- 3.The time of the Pinson "good ole boys" is coming to an end, regardless of whether I win or not. The Northern Beltline will bring scrutiny, not automatic "growth". Pinson politics is not normal. As more people pass through, the criticism will grow louder. Many more will come after me.
This is exactly what should happen, and has happened in successful cities. The mayor is the chief executive of a city. While the mayor must make decisions, he or she cannot be expected to do the work of an accountant, financial manager, or to micromanage city funds. The cost of hiring a professional city manager would be a wise investment sure to bring returns.
Huey Long, a real man of the people
I am passionate about politics and economics, which I've devoted quite a bit of time to studying. If elected, I would be the first "outsider" to do so. Being from outside Pinson, it is obvious to me how abnormal things are here. I have no connections to any interests besides those pertaining to bettering Pinson.
Real progress and reform
1.Moving away from its extreme dependence on sales tax. New revenue streams NEED to be created. 2. Stopping the slow but steady population decline that began over the last 4 years. This should be done by making Pinson a place young people want to stay. 3. Making sure Pinson is not left behind while others benefit from state and federal trends and programs.
To be just, have integrity, and act in good faith. After receiving a mandate, to identify qualified individuals and employ them to bring it to fruition.
To be the chairman of the city council, to preside over its meetings, to cast the deciding vote when required, to fulfill the minimum legal duties such as ensuring public safety and maintenance of infrastructure. However, I believe a mayor should go beyond the minimum legal requirements and should use every legal power to improve the city and the lives of its residents.
I am passionate about using the full range of legal powers granted to municipal government by the state legislature. These powers were granted specifically to enable cities to take initiative and improve their communities. If a city only petitions higher bodies of government, neglecting its own legal powers for ideological or any other reason, what good is it?
The city government should ensure professional and responsible handling of city finances. The mayor and council should employ a professional to make public monthly and yearly reports and offer recommendations.
The city has been given amble power by the state to deal with most local issues. The state should only be involved when necessary, for example, the ongoing flooding issue from state property.
McDonald's. 2 years.
It means that results, good or bad, that result from city action or inaction are on his shoulders. Higher levels of government or individual council members cannot be blamed for everything.
The natural beauty, as well as the peace that comes with it's low crime rate.
Some song by Pink that kept playing when my wife was watching tiktoks
My lowly birth in abject poverty. Once you've known hunger, you understand certain things that those with a cushy life never will.
Every Man a King, the Code of Alabama, Jefferson's letters
The federal government likewise should only be involved when necessary.
Historical event? The Bush vs. Gore presidential election.
The mayor should cooperate with law enforcement to ensure the city is in compliance with county, state, and federal law. This likely is better done by actually having a municipal police department, rather than renting officers from the county.
