Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

My name is Dia Hart, and I am running for Nashville Metro Council. I am excited to share with you about myself and my campaign for District 31. I am running for office because our community deserves to have a voice. I promise to listen to community members, and I will foster strong relationships with other Councilmen and with State officials for our communities. My goal is to bring the people’s voices of District 31 to the stage. Collectively we will have an impact on the decisions made for our public good. Obstacles will be overcome with the implementation of careful thought, research, and strategic planning as a standard.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

• • The practice of Fiscal Responsibility & Good Stewardship

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am interested on working on legislation that promotes honoring the rule of law. Supporting Law Enforcement with the resources they need to ensure that residents within our community are safe and secure is an essential part of promoting public good.

Second, I am interested in strengthening the financial accountability for taxpayer dollars utilized for the city. The Metro Budget includes numerous line items like Education infrastructure, Nonprofit Organizations that we fund to implement programs initiatives, and the future plan for our transit system will need to be scrutinized to ensure that we are using funds effectively.

Lastly, I am very interested in how the Metro Council reviews health benefits and pension savings for its various recipients.

When asked what I believe in, as a candidate, I would say that I believe in servant leadership. I am pro-family, and I am pro-community.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

I look up to my grandfather. He was an exceptional individual. He was a Chirstian, a person who loved and put his family first, and he and my grandmother supported each other as well as their 6 children, who grew up to be hard-working, independent, and successful members or our society. Excellence was the standard, not the exception in support of family and friends. My grandfather loved God first, and then loved his neighbor. He will always be my hero.

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

The most important characteristic of an elected official or any person is to be honor your word. It is vital that elected officials are honest, transparent, and to remember that they serve community residents.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

My professional and personal experience have provided me with a strong understanding of strategic multi-tasking, an ability to adapt to change, and leadership. I can successfully juggle and manage multiple projects simultaneously. I work equally well in collaborative and self-directed environments and find the challenges of coordination and development stimulating. I am ready and enthusiastic to meet the ever-changing needs of Nashville Metro Council. For these reasons, I believe that I would be a successful officeholder.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

The core responsibilities for an elected official are to listen to the constituents that elected you to office. Also, it is important to remember that when you win an election, you are a servant to all residents within your community. Lastly, it is essential to research and implement initiatives that will provide a positive impact on families and the communities you serve.

What legacy would you like to leave?

I would like a legacy in which the community defines my service as a successful. If I am able to increase the safety and security for community residents and their families, I will be fulfilling my word to families and my community. If I fill the gaps in current administrative requirements so that we are more effective with ensuring responsible development to the community, then I will be successful. If I am able to decrease human trafficking. And, if I a able to increase the education of community residents and encourage them to be more proactive in our political process, then I believe that I will have a positive legacy, by community standards.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

History happens daily. But, when I was in a college age student, I remember going to a Chicago Bulls tournament and seeing Michael Jordan play. It was exciting and energizing. He was the master of the court, and the Bulls team was on fire. Seeing Bulls team members Scottie Pippen, Ron Harper, and Dennis Rodman play was magical. I will never forget this historical event.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

My first job was in retail. I worked a short-term as a retail assistant on their inventory project. I was so excited. The job was a good opportunity for a high school student to see what the wonderful world of work could offer.

However, my most favorite type of work has been within project management industry. I love this work because it allows managers and teams to work together to produce effective outcomes. Effective project management allows good leaders to shine. We have the ability to practice open communication skills, problem solving skills, and good time management skills. Projects require planning, technical expertise, and quality controls. For this reason, I am happy that my first job was not my last. I continue to enjoy strategic planning, and I will use my leadership skills to provide positive outcomes for my community.

What is your favorite book? Why?

Who Moved My Cheese? By Dr. Spencer Johnson
This book is one of my favorites because it provides a short and concise method for an individual to identify where he is in life, and where he may be headed in the future. This book reminds the reader to always be aware of his current circumstances, interpret whether he remains on his defined route to success, and when to change tactics to achieve the next level of success for his future.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?

I would not like to be a fictional character. I want to always enjoy exactly who I am and accept my path to who God created me to be.

What was the last song that got stuck in your head?

I enjoy multiple genres of music and dance. In music, I have loved Jazz, Country, Classical, and R& B, I cannot pick just one.

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?

I have been challenged to always want to do more to support and help others. I believe that as an elected official, I will be able to fulfill a portion of my dream to give back to my family and my community.
