Diana Bartley was a 2014 Republican candidate for District 48 of the West Virginia House of Delegates.[1]

2014
Elections for the West Virginia House of Delegates took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 13, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was January 25, 2014. District 48 is represented by four delegates. Incumbent Richard Iaquinta, incumbent Timothy Miley, Joe Shaffer and Patsy Trecost II defeated incumbent Ron Fragale, Frank Angotti and Wayne Worth in the Democratic primary. Incumbent Danny Hamrick, Margaret Ann Bailey, Diana Bartley and Terry Waxman defeated Rick Wolfe, "Benjamin" Dan Franklin and Ed Randolph in the Republican primary. Miley, Trecost, Hamrick and Waxman defeated Iaquinta, Shaffer, Bailey and Bartley in the general election.[1][2]

2010
Bartley was one of eight candidates running for the four positions in District 41 on the ballot in the November 2, 2010, general election. She was defeated by Democratic incumbents Samuel Cann, Sr., Ronald Fragale, Richard Iaquinta and Timothy Miley. Only the top four vote-getters were elected. Bartley defeated Republican Tommy Phillips in the May 11 primary.[6][7]

2016 Republican National Convention

Diana Bartley was an at-large delegate to the 2016 Republican National Convention from West Virginia. Bartley was one of 30 delegates from West Virginia bound by state party rules to support Donald Trump at the convention.[8] As of July 13, 2016, Trump had approximately 1,542 delegates. The winner of the Republican nomination needed the support of 1,237 delegates. Trump formally won the nomination on July 19, 2016.
Delegate rules
District-level and at-large delegates from West Virginia were elected directly by voters in the state's primary election on May 10, 2016. Delegates were allowed to run as unpledged delegates or to designate a candidate to whom they wished to be bound at the national convention.

Delegate allocation
West Virginia had 34 delegates at the 2016 Republican National Convention. Of this total, nine were district-level delegates (three for each of the state's three congressional districts) and 22 served as at-large delegates. According to the Republican National Committee, West Virginia's district and at-large delegates were "elected on the primary ballot and [may have specified an] intention to be committed to a candidate."[9][10]
In addition, three national party leaders (identified on the chart below as RNC delegates) served as bound delegates to the Republican National Convention. The RNC delegates were required to pledge their support to the winner of the state's primary.[9][10]
