Diana Ramos was a candidate for District 4 representative on the El Paso City Council in Texas. She was defeated in the general election on May 6, 2017.

Although city council elections in El Paso are officially nonpartisan, Ramos identified as a member of the Democratic Party at the time of her 2017 candidacy.[1]

Ramos earned a B.A. in psychology and global studies from Carnegie Mellon University. Prior to her 2017 run for office, she was an intern and scheduler for U.S. Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D). Her professional experience also includes work as a bilingual instructional aide for the Socorro Independent School District.[2]

City Governance
  • Champion public input on public works, such as Cohen Stadium, and increase transparency by providing timely information and outreach for public input.
  • Address ethical concerns of citizens and streamline processes to address grievances in representation.
  • Undertake a dedication to exceptional constituent services by continuing weekly public meetings and establishing set response times from staff.
  • Work towards a more cohesive council that is efficient at implementing public projects on time and on budget.
  • Foster open door policies with city employees to preserve efficacy in service to the public.

The Northeast
Cohen Stadium

  • I will provide timely and accurate information on the management of Cohen Stadium. Keeping the Northeast aware and involved in the plans for permanent and sustainable use or possible redevelopment of this vital building is the priority.

Infrastructure

  • Increase oversight of fiscal responsibility to provide basic needs such as safe roads that are properly maintained, repaired and resurfaced.
  • Focus on timeliness and proper implementation of the Streets Capital Improvement project that addresses these needs.
  • Address the need for lighting in our neighborhoods.
  • Revise and implement effective storm water action plans preemptively and consistently.
  • Enforce city ordinances to sustain beautification of our neighborhoods, which includes clarity in communicating violations of city codes to constituents.
  • Plan for smart growth to accommodate increased road traffic, connectivity issues in developing neighborhoods and congested traffic areas.

Retail/Development

  • Actively attract businesses, restaurants, and projects to ensure the NE gets its fair share in quality of life improvements.
  • Communicate effectively with regional, state, and federal agencies to identify opportunities and make the NE an attractive community to live, work, and play.
  • Continue to strongly advocate for preservation efforts of our Mountainscape.

Law Enforcement

  • Assist our law enforcement with resources to increase the presence of Patrol units.
  • Secure necessary funding to ensure the proper management of our Police force.
  • Change the narrative and perception of our Northeast community by strengthening bonds with our police force and increasing awareness of Police/Community Partnerships.[4]
