I am Diane Albert, President of the Wichita Public Schools Board of Education. I'm running for re-election because I believe every child deserves access to a high quality education, and every taxpayer deserves confidence that their dollars are being used wisely.

As Board President and former Vice-President, I have led with a clear focus on student achievement, fiscal responsibility, and results. I listen to all voices, build consensus, and make sure academics stay at the center of every decision. I have supported competitive pay and professional growth for teachers, championed transparency in budgeting, and prioritized policies that help students succeed. Before joining the board, I was a small business owner and general contractor. That experience taught me how to solve problems, manage budgets, and work hard to get things done. I serve because I believe education is the best way to lift families out of poverty. I work tirelessly to ensure our schools are equipped to serve every student well.

If you want steady leadership, strong values, and a commitment to student achievement and responsible governance, I'd be honored to earn your vote.
  • Student Achievement Comes First. I have led with a clear focus on what matters most, student learning. As Board President, I have worked to align every discussion and decision around academic goals, using data to monitor progress and ensure accountability. I have championed a disciplined approach that keeps the board focused on student outcomes, not distractions. By prioritizing instructional quality, supporting educators, and maintaining high expectations for every student, we are creating the conditions for long-term academic success. My leadership is rooted in consistency, clarity, and a belief that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed.
  • Fiscal Responsibility and Accountability. As a former small business owner and general contractor, I understand the importance of budgeting wisely and getting results. I bring that same mindset to the school board, ensuring taxpayer dollars are being spent with purpose and transparency. I've supported efforts to align our budget with clear goals, so spending directly supports student learning and teacher support. I advocate for long-term planning, cost-effective solutions, and clear accountability for how resources are used. Taxpayers deserve confidence that their investment in public education is being managed with care, and I am committed to earning and keeping that trust by making sure decisions reflect real priorities.
  • Steady, Proven Leadership You Can Trust. In my time on the board, including service as both Vice-President and now President, I have worked to bring people together, stay focused on student success, and lead with integrity. I listen to all voices, build consensus, and make decisions guided by data and student success. My leadership style is results driven and grounded in common sense. I believe our community deserves board members who are focused, respectful, and committed to working collaboratively. I am committed to leading with clarity, consistency, and a steady focus on what is best for students and families.
I am passionate about policies that put student learning first, support great teaching, and ensure taxpayer dollars are used with transparency and purpose. I believe every child deserves access to a high quality education, and every decision should reflect that commitment. I value integrity, accountability, and a strong partnership between families, educators, and the community. My focus is on setting clear goals, aligning resources to support them, and leading in a way that earns the trust of those I serve.
I recommend the book, "Great on Their Behalf" by AJ Crabill. While it is not a book about political philosophy, it is a book that reflects my belief that school boards should focus relentlessly on student achievement, use data to guide decisions, and align resources with academic goals. It is a practical, student centered approach to leadership, rooted in accountability, integrity, and results.
Each year, the Council of Great City Schools selects a small group of school board members from across the country to participate in an intensive professional development cohort focused on improving student outcomes through governance. I had the honor of being selected, and it deepened my understanding of how school boards, when focused and aligned, can directly influence academic results. It shaped my approach to leadership and continues to guide my service.
Elected officials should lead with integrity, accountability, and a focus on results. It is important to listen, stay grounded in data, and make decisions that serve the long term good, not personal interests. Clear goals, consistent leadership, and a commitment to public trust are essential.
The core responsibilities of a school board member are to set clear goals for student achievement, ensure responsible use of taxpayer funds, and hold the superintendent accountable for results. Board members must stay focused on student outcomes, monitor progress using data, and make decisions that support student learning. It is also essential to listen to the community, work collaboratively, and lead with integrity and transparency.
One of my favorite books is, "The Nightingale" by Kristin Hannah. It is a fictional story overlaid with a historical timeline, set during World War II, that highlights the extraordinary courage of ordinary women. the characters face impossible circumstances with resilience, compassion, and quite strength. It is a reminder that leadership often means doing the the right things when no one is watching and that lasting impact can come from those who act with integrity and conviction, even in the darkest of times.
The primary job of a school board member is to improve student outcomes by setting clear goals, holding the superintendent accountable, and aligning resources to support learning. It also means leading with integrity, using data to guide decisions, and representing the community.
My constituents are the residents, families, and taxpayers of the school district, regardless if they have children in the schools or not, because public education affects us all. I believe students are at the heart of this work, and it is my responsibility to ensure they receive a high quality education. At the same time, I am accountable to taxpayers and committed to making sure public funds are used wisely.
Supporting the diverse needs starts with listening and staying focused on outcomes. Every decision I make is guided by a commitment to academic achievement and responsible stewardship of resources.
I believe financial transparency and government accountability are essential to earning and keeping the public's trust. As a steward of taxpayer dollars, I take seriously the responsibility to ensure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely and in alignment with student focused goals. Clear accessible budgeting, regular reporting, and open communication are critical.
