Diane Finkle is a judge for the United States bankruptcy court, District of Rhode Island and replaced Judge Arthur Votolato, who retired at the end of July 2012.[1] She was appointed on September 6, 2012.[2]

Education

Finkle received her undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder and her J.D. from George Washington University.[3]

Career

Finkle began her career in 1981 with Thomas F. Kelleher as his law clerk. She also practiced law for thirty years with the firm of Winograd Shine Land & Finkle, P.C. There she worked with bankruptcy and state receivership law. In her career, she has "represented debtors, secured creditors, creditors’ committees in Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases and served as counsel to bankruptcy trustees." Finkle was also "a court-appointed receiver for various manufacturing, service and retail businesses and commercial and residential real estate developments."[2]

Awards and associations

Finkle has been recognized in the Best Lawyers editions for Rhode Island Bankruptcy and Insolvency practitioners as well as in Super Lawyers, New England Edition. In 2008, she was awarded with a Partners in Philanthropy Award from the Rhode Island Chapter of the Association of Professional Fund Raisers for her pro bono work.

Her memberships include: Massachusetts and Rhode Island Bars, the American Bar and the Rhode Island Bar Associations, the Rhode Island Women’s Bar Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Turnaround Management Association.[2]
