Moderate Progressive Democrat with healthcare and mental health as primary platform planks, now even more since COVID. The Commissioners Court makes decisions on how to spend Collin County's tax dollars. They are all Republicans. Every elected official at the county level in Collin County is a Republican. I want to bring balance and fairness back to County politics. Democratic ideals need to be considered when holding the county purse strings. Collin County is a great place to live if you are upper middle class but challenging for ordinary folks. Our taxes are very high, and it's squeezing out the long-time residents and new folks who may be on a fixed income. The county doesn't need radical change, but it does need its priorities shifted. My background is in the USDA, having spent 11 years there, administering a multi-million dollar budget to give loans to farmers and ranchers, who sometimes can't borrow from banks. I am currently a licensed escrow officer and notary public, so I understand surveys and land plats, which is another aspect of the Commissioners Court. I further have a lot of experience in customer satisfaction, and am eager to interface with Collin County constituents to provide resolutions to their issues. I am a mother to three adult children, and one of my sons has special needs, so I am empathetic to the growing number of parents who are facing challenges with their children. I'm the head of my household of four people and four dogs and three cats.
Anti-corruption. Graft and cronyism are rampant in our county politics. Backrooms and handshake deals are deep concerns here. Justice and fairness are very important to me.
Commissioners Court decides on the budget expenditures for Collin County's property tax dollars. This year that is expected to be about $450 million dollars, not even counting the millions provided to the county for COVID-19 relief. The court determines pay and benefits for all county employees including the Sheriff's Department, the District Attorney's office and county jails. They decide on infrastructure and where the new roads will go - think of the impact that high traffic plays on businesses. They assist the County Judge with emergency management, and have become very high profile during the COVID crisis. They are in charge of county-level healthcare and county health clinics. They provide the budget for Lifepath, the mental health agency for the county, from which my own adult son receives services. It is a critical entity, and their priorities need to be more about citizens and their needs.
One person I look up to is my step-daughter, Katie. She is active duty military, a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. In January, we found out that she had been serving by leading troops in Iraq and Syria. When she returned home, she was awarded the Bronze Star. She is an amazing young leader and quite inspirational.
I am a good problem-solver, a compassionate listener, and I enjoy structure.
To make Collin County a better place to live.

It's more important that they have a good idea of what the county needs to prioritize and how to budget for that.
Sound judgment and deep compassion, with a pragmatic side when it comes to finances.
