District Judge Accused of Fraud, Resigns
February 14, 2012
Oklahoma: Seventh Judicial District Judge Tammy Bass-LeSure is facing over 30 felony counts of fraud, perjury, and conspiracy. She is charged with lying on adoption records and for claiming the payments for two foster children who do not live with her, but instead with the sister of Judge Bass-LeSure's bailiff.[1][2]
Judge Bass-LeSure has already submitted her letter of resignation to Governor Mary Fallin, saying she will step down effective March 1, 2012, right before she is scheduled to be formally arraigned on the said charges. Judge Bass-LeSure's resignation letter also thanked the Oklahoma County citizens for allowing her to serve as their state district judge for thirteen years.[1]
Judge Bass-LeSure, her husband Karlos LeSure, as well as the sister of Judge Bass-LeSure's bailiff, Ravonda Edwards, have waived their rights to a preliminary hearing on the charges.[1]
All three accused have denied their misconduct. Judge Bass-LeSure's arraignment has been set for the 2nd of March.[2]
