Four of the seven seats on the La Joya Independent School District school board were up for general election on November 8, 2016. Place 4 incumbent Laura Avendaño faced challengers Anselmo Barrera and Claudia Ochoa. The Place 5 race included incumbent Esperanza Ochoa and challenger Armin Garza. Place 6 incumbent Oscar Salinas ran for re-election against Domingo Villarreal Jr. and Oscar Martinez. Newcomers Alejandro Cantu and Graciela Flores ran for the Place 7 seat. Ochoa, Garza, Salinas, and Cantu won election to their respective seats.[1]
