Don McGuire was a 2016 Democratic candidate for District 8 of the Kansas State Senate. He ran unsuccessfully for District 16 of the Kansas House of Representatives in 2014.

Campaign themes

2016

McGuire's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

I'm running for State Senator of District 8 to help overturn my opponent's disastrous legislation that has been eroding our education system as well as our transportation infrastructure, and has not benefited our economy in the least bit.

My opponent time and time again has voted for special interests, not for the interests of Senate District 8 in Overland Park. His votes have created the fiscal problems that make it necessary to underfund our schools, take money from the state highway fund, and borrow from the state pension fund in order to pay the state's bills. Why rehire the person that broke everything to come back and fix the things that he broke?

I will work across the aisle with Republicans and Democrats who want to make Kansas better and fund our schools.[1]

—Don McGuire[2]

2014

McGuire's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[3]

I am running because the incumbent’s votes have demonstrated that she doesn’t value our public schools the same way I do. She has voted on numerous occasions to decrease funding for schools, and she supported the Brownback tax experiment that will starve our schools of the necessary resources for years to come. The results of that experimental tax plan will likely be higher property and sales taxes.[1]
