Don Roberts has practiced primarily in Domestic & Juvenile Courts for the last 20 years. Many of my family law clients entrust me with their family members' needs that I am frequently requested to represent them in states as close as Kentucky, Illinois and as far as California. Experience matters in Domestic and Juvenile Court - experience in meeting the needs and reaching the goal of clients. This deep understanding only comes with Domestic Court practice BEFORE sitting in judgment of those parties. I have that experience.

I am an Air Force veteran, a former police officer and even a former courtroom baliiff. My experience and vantage point of the courts is unlike many other attorneys or judges. Experience goes beyond my professional experience. My wife and I have a daughter with Down Syndrome. Parenting a child with special needs has made me look at my cases sensitive to the experiences of families of children with special needs. I have a grandchild who falls within the Autism spectrum and I have had the opportunity to work with an attorney who also falls within the spectrum. I’ve learned to look at the ABILITIES of individuals rather than focusing on their inabilities.

  • Domestic & Juvenile Court requires a judge to be attentive, not just to the facts, but to the parties in order to do the things that sets this court apart from others. No other court is saddled with the responsibility to ensure the "best interest of the child". The best judges for this bench are those who have years of experience and practice listening to parties, understanding their needs and fashioning resolutions that are fair and reasonable. My 20 years of practicing in this Court gives me the strength to meet this challenge.
  • Parties before Domestic & Juvenile Court must move through the system and their legal issue expeditiously. Even in Franklin County, known to be the busiest court in the state of Ohio, must do better at resolving cases appropriately in a timely manner. In Domestic and Juvenile Court, the clock is always ticking children age out, multiple and lengthy continuances often compound problems that brought parties to court. I will work hard at identifying specialized dockets such as drug court, veteran & mental health court in order to have judges identify frequent, common issues and allow those judges of those dockets identify commonalities and expedite those cases. This type of attention will allow a fair & focused result quicker.
  • I have worked in the world of prosecution as a former police officer. I have defended clients in criminal and juvenile delinquency issues. I have applied both of these experiences in my civil cases and domestic violence and stalking cases. It is crucial that our Domestic & Juvenile Court judges are balanced in their decisions and equally important is that they hold the experience to not from a single area of practice (defense/prosecution), but both. I will carry that experience to the bench with me, when I am elected. Our family law judges must be balanced in their vantage point of the cases they hear.
I am especially passionate about domestic violence, juvenile delinquency sanctions and programs, veteran and first responder equitable parenting philosophy.
