Donald Kirkegaard
Donald Kirkegaard is a former South Dakota Secretary of Education. He was appointed in November 2017 by Gov. Dennis Daugaard (R) and began on January 1, 2018.[1] He served until December 2018. Kirkegaard replaced former officeholder Melody Schopp, who retired on December 15, 2017.[2]
Biography
Kirkegaard was superintendent of the Meade County School district from 2011 to 2018. He also served as the president of the South Dakota Board of Education Standards until his appointment as education secretary. He worked as a social studies teacher and principal in Bristol, South Dakota, and as a principal and superintendent in Britton, South Dakota.[1]
