Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Martinez's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • National Security, Homeland Security, Cyber Security: I support increasing our defense budget and securing our nation against all threats, including the ones that arise within our borders or through the internet. Without a strong defense, we have nothing. As someone who has served in the Army and worked in the Federal Emergency Management Agency, I will make this a priority.
  • Veterans Care: I support a bipartisan solution to fixing the VA healthcare system immediately. I am unable to get care at the VA clinic in Colorado Springs. When I contacted Doug Lamborn’s office to ask for assistance with this issue, I was told that there were too many veterans in his district to help them all. He continues to ignore me to this day.
  • Environment: I support increased regulations on the use of fracking in Colorado. Regardless of the technology and its history, the risk to our water supply is too high. I understand this is a big issue in Colorado, but I will not sacrifice my home for their profits. There needs to be more research by independent organizations that have no personal financial gain from the oil companies before I reconsider my position.
  • 2nd Amendment: I support the Second Amendment but understand there needs to be some gun-control legislation on those with mental illnesses. The Second Amendment prevents dictators like Putin from invading our country and ensures every citizen the opportunity to protect themselves and their family.
  • Immigration: Have you looked into immigration law? I did when I worked for Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Denver. These laws are outdated and too complex. I support updating the immigration laws to fix the problems we have today. But, I do not believe we need to send immigrants back unless they have committed violent criminal acts. Undocumented immigrants who are already here need a path to citizenship, so long as they continue to be upstanding members of the community. We must know who is here so that we can weed out violent criminals.
