Donald Stuart Russell (1906-1998) was a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit. He joined the court in 1971 after being nominated by President Richard Nixon.[1]

Prior to his work on the Fourth Circuit, Russell served on the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina.[1] Russell died on February 22nd, 1998.

Judicial nominations and appointments

Fourth Circuit

Russell was nominated to the Fourth Circuit by President Richard Nixon on April 7, 1971, to a seat vacated by Simon Sobeloff; he was confirmed by the Senate on April 21, 1971, and received commission two days later. He served the Fourth Circuit until his death on February 22, 1998.[1]

District of South Carolina

Russell was nominated to the District of South Carolina by President Lyndon Johnson on October 11, 1966, to a seat vacated by Charles Wyche; he was confirmed by the Senate on October 20, 1966, and received commission on November 3. He served the District of South Carolina until May 1, 1971, when his advancement to the Fourth Circuit was scheduled.[1] Russell was succeeded in this position by Solomon Blatt.
