Campaign themes

2014

Held's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

  • Excerpt: "In the Senate, I will make every effort to ensure that all of our residents have a fair shot at the equal rights owed to them. The young deserve a good education which will prepare them for life. The old deserve the right to know they won’t be taxed out of the homes where they have spent their lives. The hard working deserve the right to fair pay. We all have the right to free speech and association. And most importantly the people of all of our diverse races, religions, genders, and orientations deserve the right to fair treatment in the eyes of the law."
  • Excerpt: "In Albany, I will sponsor bills which make sure that our inalienable rights are protected; bills protecting the right of a woman to earn the same as a man doing the same job, bills protecting the right of a person to support their family by making their hard work count, bills ensuring our residents don’t bear the brunt of building the new Tappan Zee Bridge, bills ensuring everyone has a fair shot at living comfortably in our state."
  • Excerpt: "With regard to sales tax, I want to lower our sales tax to encourage people to come to Rockland from neighboring counties to enjoy our world class shopping, dining, and recreation. More importantly, I want to lower our sales tax so residents can have more money to invest in their futures."
  • Excerpt: "Our county is has [sic] the 5th highest property taxes in the county. This is something that must end. In Rockland, our politicians blame this issue on Albany too. In Albany, I can help address this and make our county a more affordable place to live."
