Donna Taylor (Utah)
Donna Taylor was a 2014 Democratic candidate for District 20 of the Utah House of Representatives.[1]
Campaign themes
2014
Taylor's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[2]
Air Quality
- Excerpt: "Many Utahns are suffering serious health problems due to the poor quality of air from our refineries, car emissions and the temperature inversions that Utah is famous for. Economic development in the private sector creates the wealth that sustains a high living standard in Utah. The state of our air quality has a direct impact on the growth of business in the private sector. If we clean up the air that we all breath, we will attract new and cleaner businesses to our community while serving the public good."
Funding for Education
- Excerpt: "This means that the tax revenue which is ear-marked for the public education system is used to reduce overcrowding in classrooms and gets to the teachers who need and deserve it. It's a shame that teachers make a living so close to the poverty level when they are performing a service so valuable to the community. Not only teachers, but police officers, paramedics and fire fighters should receive a livable and respectable wage."
Medicaid Expansion
- Excerpt: "Affordable, quality health care is the right of every individual in this country. The Democratic Party values the continued funding of public health programs such as Medicare and Medicaid. The Federal government has already allocated the funding of Medicaid expansion to Utah. If we don't accept the funds, they will not go back for the reduction of the Federal deficit, so why not accept it and say thank you!"
Women's Issues
- Excerpt: "For 17 years I worked as a single woman to support myself. I was college educated, yet I found there is a glass ceiling in the corporate world here in Utah, and throughout the country making it difficult for women to advance their careers. Women should be paid equally to men for doing the same work. As it is, women only make on average .77 for every dollar their male co-workers make. This discrimination must be addressed through legislation. An increase in the minimum wage will help all workers, both women and men alike, as many Utahn's must work several jobs just to make ends meet."
